Vasilis Vasiliou is a multi-instrumentalist, drummer and composer from Cyprus. After completing his undergraduate studies in music, Vasilis continued as an instructor of drums and percussions at various music stages. Vasilis has also performed as a drummer/percussionist in various international festivals, concerts and projects in Cyprus, Italy, Germany, Austria, England and Greece and collaborated with renowned musicians including Giorgos Dalaras, Marios Fragkoulis, Alexia Vasiliou, Nicola Pizzani, Demetris Lappas, Pantelis Stoikos and Manos Achalinotopoulos.
His first touch with the handpan was in May 2016. One year later, Vasilis started his solo project in which he covers songs, steps on improvisations and composes his own fresh melodies, while exploring the possibilities of the handpan by expanding its sound horizons through experimentation. His video ‘Carol of the Bells’ became a YouTube sensation (1.6 million views) and made him well-known to the worldwide handpan community.
Besides being an instructor of the handpan, drums and percussions, Vasilis has developed his Full Set solo Project in which he uniquely combines the handpan with the grooves of other rhythmic percussion creating a mesmerising, playful and uplifting soundscape. In 2018, he started a series of performances as a drummer/percussionist/handpan player in theatres which continues up to the present (Golfo- Theatro Dentro (2018), A Midsummer Night’s dream-Kypria Int'l Festival Cyprus (2022), Antigoni - Int'l Festival of Ancient Greek Drama (2023).
